Purpose and tasks

Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht has set itself the goal of "promoting scholarship in the field of national, European and international antitrust law" in the German-speaking world. Membership of the association is open only to lawyers who work in the field of antitrust law. Studienvereinigung has approximately 800 members.

Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht regards the exchange of ideas between lawyers and the authorities (European Commission, the German Federal Cartel Office, the Austrian Federal Competition Authority and the Swiss Competition Commission) and the courts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the European Courts in Luxembourg as an effective means of promoting the development of antitrust law. In order to encourage this exchange of ideas, the Studienvereinigung organises working meetings in Bonn (Federal Cartel Office), Brussels (European Commission) or near the German Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof) or the European courts in Heidelberg, Luxembourg or Baden-Baden and in Berne, Geneva, Salzburg, Vienna or Zurich.

The working meetings are open to the members of Studienvereinigung and their guests. In addition, every two years the Studienvereinigung holds an international Competition Law Forum in Brussels. Non-members may register for this conference. Studienvereinigung also sometimes holds joint conferences with other organisations.

In addition, Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht takes part in discussions on legislative projects of the European competition authorities and makes submissions on such projects. For this purpose, it has made submissions on a number of legislative proposals of the European Commission. Studienvereinigung also maintains contacts with the authorities and the legislatures in the countries involved.
